Google, lately, has been pulling out its weight to help the users have a better experience by constantly developing the Google AI. Similarly, Google has announced its all new algorithm named ‘MUM.’ Google’s MUM, Multitask Unified Model, is a new AI tool designed to answer complex sets of questions that cannot be answered with a link or description. Complex set of questions imply queries pertaining to multiple subtopics as the answer.

Let me simplify this for you, imagine you are working on building the core strength of your body. A query like “how to build core strength?” would require a simple search for Google. However, a query like, ‘how to build core strength of legs, back and chest in 30 days?’ would require thoughtfully considered multiple searches to get your answer. On the other hand if you would reach out to a fitness expert, he/she might be able to give you an answer with all the nuances and guide you through all your questions.

Search Engines aren’t ultra-modern enough to provide information the way an expert of any domain can. Therefore, Google has introduced this new technology called Multitask Unified Model aka ‘MUM’ which aims at “getting closer to helping you with these types of complex needs. So in the future, you’ll need fewer searches to get things done.” According to a research published in May 2021, a Google researcher named Donald Metzler presents a case-study that shows why there was a need to tweak the way search engines give answers to complex questions.

According to Google, MUM has the potential to transform complex tasks using the T5 text-to-text transformer. “MUM not only understands language, but also generates it. It’s trained across 75 different languages and many different tasks at once, allowing it to develop a more comprehensive understanding of information and world knowledge than previous models.”

Google has designed this multimodal algorithm to help the search engine understand the information visually and textually to tackle complex tasks. MUM shall help surface better insights that are based on deep expert knowledge where it could easily without multiple searches highlight the exercises for strengthening the core of legs, back and chest. This Google algorithm has the potential to break down the language barriers by conveying knowledge in different languages.

So in the future, when you’re looking for information on ways to build core strength, you might be able to enjoy better results on your search where you might get the best diet to follow or different ways to build core strength like yoga, pilates etc… and all this information in various languages.
