Google: Sitemap ping tool still works to build & submit to search engines

Google’s John Mueller took to Twitter to respond back to a recent query on, whether or not a Sitemap Ping Tool continues to work. John further stated he “is not aware of any changes, and the URL appears to answer queries as usual.” However, building and then submitting the sitemaps via ping tool is indeed still an option for the search engine.

What is the Sitemap Ping Tool?

The Sitemap Ping Tool provides with a service that intends to alert Sitemap quick ping search engines. The XML Sitemaps protocol must be used to build the file. You may submit your search engine the Sitemap URL or update your file via quick ping. According to Google, “Use the tool for ping. Send the complete URL of your sitemap via a GET request on your browser or the command line. Make sure that you can access the sitemap file.”

John also asserts that, “Of course, this doesn’t imply that Google will index all pages and display all pages in Google Search just because you notified the Search Engine with fresh URLs. “A sitemap ping does not ensure a rush either,” John added.

It is worth noting that only after Google first discovers a sitemap, it is then verified and then only when you ask that the search engine to identify the sitemap. The site map is examined when a site crawls.

Google can make your map available in several ways. However, notify Google only to a sitemap when fresh or updated; do not repeatedly send or ping unchanging sitemaps.
