Soon YouTube will support your social handles like Twitter & Instagram

Joining the league of Twitter and Instagram, YouTube is introducing handles to its platform. The video streaming platform is all set to roll out this feature soon to users.

YouTube is adding this feature to make it seamless for users to find and search for creators. The new handles will come on channel pages and YouTube shorts videos.

This will make it more straightforward for users to mention each other in comments, video descriptions and other spots.

As per YouTube’s blog post, “We want to ensure creators can craft an identity as unique as their content, while giving viewers the confidence that they are interacting with their favourite creators,”

These handles will hook with the channel names as another mode to specify a YouTube channel. In the coming month, YouTube will start informing creators to choose a handle for their channel. If the channel has a personalised URL then it will automatically become their default handle.

The video streaming platform is rolling this attribute slowly because each of it needs to be unique. A channel’s all-around YouTube presence, total subscribers and its active or inactive status amongst other factors will play a significant role in determining when the creator will get access to the handles selection process.

How does it works?

After the creator chooses a handle, YouTube will build a similar URL for them so that they can lead people to YouTube from other platforms. Furthermore, channel already having a personalised URL won’t be required to update links

For example, youtube.com/@handle.
